Introducing Lucas Nightingale

Lucas joined the Plain English Law team on Monday 02 August.

We got a chance to sit down with Lucas and ask him a few personal questions to get to know him better:

Where do you stay? Where are you from?

I live in Dundee but I’m originally from Canada. I grew up in a small Scottish-built town in Southern Ontario called Fergus. It is home to one of North America’s largest international Highland Games festivals so, believe me, I’m no stranger to bagpipes and haggis! Before moving to the UK in 2011, I lived in Vancouver for four years.

What did you do before?

I was a Multimedia Marketing Coordinator for almost 5 years at the A. Proctor Group in Blairgowrie, Perthshire. As part of the marketing team, I helped create eye-catching campaigns promoting their range of construction materials. Our work won 4 awards at the Construction Marketing Awards in 2019 and 2020.

Why Plain English Law?

I’ve been interested in data privacy since the introduction of the GDPR.  It’s an interesting challenge to balance privacy requirements against longstanding marketing practices. That’s why I’m refocusing my career on this area now, and Plain English Law’s straight-talking approach appeals to both my marketing and customer service instincts.

Hobbies? Interests?

My hobby seems to be collecting hobbies: antiquing, gardening, refinishing furniture, interior decorating, reading, cooking, baking, knitting, taking photographs, visiting museums and art galleries, and exercising the dog. I’m also a member of a running club: the Dundee Frontrunners. In 2019, I ran the Marathon du Médoc in France – I dressed up like a goldfish (and might have had a sip or two of wine along the way).

Favourite travel destination?

Madeira. It is the perfect combination of relaxation and tropical adventure. A unique network of walking trails called levadas crisscrosses the entire island. The scenery is incredible and the food is delicious.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee in the morning; tea in the afternoon.
